WHAT DOES BAREFOOT SHOES FOR RUNNING MEAN?

New to barefoot shoes. We reside in Montana where it can get to -20 or reduce. Any strategies on boots? Am I suitable in contemplating you would require the thick boot to shield from the extreme cold? Search for boots with a large toe box it's possible?
